Boys Only Leadership Development Registration Form

GOLD Parent Letter

Girls Only Leadership Development Registration Form

Students today are faced with many difficult situations and decisions. The BOLD & GOLD program, addresses the growing need for support in an 8th grade student's life. There will be one after school program for the boys (BOLD) and another for the girls (GOLD) consisting of informative, age-appropriate presentations and discussions that promote the students to ask questions, exchange ideas, interact with classmates outside of their normal social group and spend time together working on the skills that will aid them in the situations they face daily.

Adult volunteers will be a part of the organization, development and coordination of the program. A Teen Leadership Corps (TLC) of selected high school students will be chosen to assist in running the program and ultimately being mentors as these students enter 9th grade. Gender appropriate parents/teachers will volunteer as chaperones throughout the evening. Program facilitators should be from outside IMS.

Objectives:

At the 8th grade level to:

  • Provide healthy alternatives to drug, alcohol, tobacco and sexual experimentation.
  • Develop leadership skill opportunities at both school and community levels.
  • Present skills for resisting peer pressure.
  • Experience successful transitioning to the high school level.
  • Allow students to gather in a positive environment, obtain timely information, exchange ideas and interface with professionals concerning their current social environment.

At the high school level to:

  • Reinforce their community leadership skills.
  • Develop a mentoring program.
  • Learn life skills needed to be successful in High School and into Adulthood.
  • Interact with adults and peers to develop a program.

Participants and Implementation

  • The students at each program will be divided into teams before and during the program sessions to work with peers outside their social group.
  • A Teen Leadership Corps (TLC) of 25-30 selected High School Students will act as group Team Leaders and will participate in all team activities and become future mentors for the 8th graders.
  • Teachers, Administrators and Parent Volunteers will organize and chaperone the program.
  • The only adults in the sessions will be Professional Facilitators.
  • An informational evening for parents will present the program and answer questions.
